Singers in preparation for April 30, May 1 concerts

The Adirondack Singers is preparing to present its annual Spring Concert Series.

Performances will be Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1 in St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.

The Singers will present a program including several sacred pieces in Latin.

Mendelssohn’s Heilig is an arrangement by Grammy-Award winner Gregg Smith, renowned in the North Country as founder of the Adirondack Festival of American Music.

Three Hungarian Folk Songs by Matyas Sieber and a version of the Israeli folk song Bashana Haba’ah add contrasting settings of humorous and thought-provoking lyrics. Familiar songs from current movies round out the program and invite audience participation.

The Singers’ traditional fund-raiser will offer two items this year: a gift certificate to the Blue Line Pub & Brewery and a gift basket from the Adirondack Candy Man. Tickets are available from choir members and at the door.

The Adirondack Singers is a local community choir with members from the Tri-Lakes and surrounding areas. In addition to the annual concerts, the Adirondack Singers are active in the Quad-Lakes communities, performing at many other venues including Saranac Village at Will Rogers, the Uihlein Mercy Center, Saranac Lake’s Berkeley Green and the Long Lake Town Hall.

The suggested donation for the concert is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens.
