Jamcrackers ‘Out of Context’ Saturday

SARANAC LAKE – Jamcrackers’ “Out of Context” is next up on the Live at BluStage performances.

The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at BluSeed Studios, 24 Cedar St.

Jamcrackers is a well-known trio, including Dan Berggren, Dan Duggan and Peggy Lynn.

They are often appreciated for their down home, uplifting songs about the Adirondacks and ballads of strong mountain people, but you won’t find that at the upcoming “Out of Context” concert at Bluseed Studios. Carol Vossler, BluSeed Studios’ artistic director, first hatched the idea of giving the Jammers a chance to play some of their funny, seldom played, and back alley songs. “Out of Context” concerts only occur every few years, so if you’ve been dying to hear “Garbage Love,” “Nuns in Disguise” or “Red Bandana,” come on out.

Seasoned solo performers Berggren, Lynn and Duggan have combined talents to create a dynamic trio named in honor of the river drivers who broke up log jams. They worked hard to find solutions, to get things rolling again, and it was a job that couldn’t be done alone. The trio feels the same way about their music. These good friends and accomplished musicians bring a rare blend of humor, history and musical spirit to their performances.

Award-winning educator and songwriter Berggren has deep roots in the Adirondacks. His music reflects the spirit and the hardworking people of that region and it has traveled around the world in performances from Central Africa to Transylvania. Author and environmental activist Bill McKibben says, “Dan is a throwback to the old role of the folk singer he’s articulating things that need to be said right now.”

Lynn writes and performs songs about women and natural beauty of the North Country and her bluesy alto melts every audience. With Sandra Weber, she co-authored Breaking Trail: Remarkable Women of the Adirondacks. In 2005, both Lynn and Berggren received the Adirondack Mountain Club’s Education Award.

Duggan, a National Hammered Dulcimer Champion, is known from Maine to California for his wizardry on the hammered dulcimer, flat-picking guitar and keyboards. In addition to his extensive array of recordings (18), Dan’s dulcimer talents are spotlighted on Paul Simon’s Grammy-nominated albums You’re the One and The Paul Simon Collection. Many of Dan’s original tunes are published in the collection Coming Home. Also known for his dance calling, Dan actually calls while playing the hammered dulcimer.

The trio’s diverse blend of folk and blues, ballads, gospel, and dance tunes sparks a rare chemistry.
