Volunteer stewardship agreement signed for Saranac Lakes Wild Forest

SARANAC LAKE — The nonprofit Morgan Duke Conservation Society has recently signed a volunteer stewardship agreement with the state Department of Environmental Conservation for the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest.

This agreement will allow residents, high school and college students to become volunteers and help protect the ecosystem of the forest.

The Saranac Lakes Wild Forest is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, with trails and campsites. However, with the increase in visitors, there has been a rise in litter and other environmental issues. The Morgan Duke Conservation Society recognized the need for action and has taken the initiative to make a positive impact on the forest.

Volunteers will play a crucial role in maintaining the beauty and health of the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest. They will be tasked for picking up litter along the trails and campsites, planting trees and painting trail gates. This not only helps to keep the forest clean and safe for visitors, but it also allows volunteers to learn about conservation and the importance of preserving our natural resources.

Morgan Duke Conservation Society officials are excited to partner with the DEC and provide opportunities for residents and students to give back to their community and environment. The organization believes that by involving volunteers, they can make a significant difference in protecting the ecosystem of the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest. People interested in volunteering are encouraged to reach out and join their efforts in preserving this beautiful natural area.
