Youngblood offers free workshop on travel writing
SARANAC LAKE — Adirondack author Ken Youngblood will be offering a free workshop on travel writing at the Adirondack Center for Writing on Aug. 10.
Participants in the “Finding Your Way” workshop will explore how a writer prepares for travel, the writer’s mindset while traveling and the skills needed to rekindle the experience in the reader’s mind.
During the workshop, participants will experiment with how to choose words, shape sentences and compose the whole of a compelling piece of travel writing. To keep the workshop centered on the participants’ own skills, Youngblood asks that all participants email him at kedsony@hotmail.com as soon as possible after signing up to tell him why they signed up and what they want out of the workshop. Youngblood will personally respond.
The workshop is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Adirondack Center for Writing on Broadway in Saranac Lake. Enrollment limited to 15.
Youngblood is professor emeritus of writing and literature, recognized by the New York State English Council with their Outstanding Teacher designation and by the State University of New York’s Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Youngblood has also been honored for his features, published in newspapers and magazines, including seven first place Distinguished Writing Awards given in the New York News Publishers’ annual competition.
His outdoor features have been published in Adirondack Life and Blue Ridge Country, among other regional magazines, and in MountainBike Magazine, as well as newspapers and online platforms in the United States and other countries.
Youngblood recently published “Turning Centuries,” a collection of his favorite bicycling stories drawn from 40 years touring three continents.
