New York State Police charge 3 in underage alcohol sale sting
KEENE — New York State Police charged employees at three establishments in Lake Placid and Keene with selling alcohol to someone under the age of 21 during an underage drinking sting on Friday.
Police charged Kristy D. Farrell, 50, of Keene at Cedar Run Bakery and Market; Thomas A. Davis, 38, of Lake Placid at Stewart’s Shop; and Janice W. Covert, 64, of Paul Smiths at Outpost Wine and Spirits with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor. All three were issued appearance tickets.
During these investigations, businesses are checked using a trooper in plain clothes, and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
The sting was done in conjunction with Essex County Stop DWI and checked 16 businesses for compliance.
Police recognized Valley Grocery Store, Ausable Inn, Stewart’s Shops and East Branch Organics in the town of Keene for their compliance.
Police recognized Station Street Wine and Liquor and Walgreens in the village of Lake Placid for their compliance.
Police recognized Stewart’s Shops, Hannaford, Wine and Spirit Shoppe, Terry Robards Wine and Spirits, Family Dollar, Price Chopper and Kinney Drugs in the town of North Elba for their compliance.
