Saranac Lake ArtWorks and the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center are teaming up to hold a Mother’s Day celebration of art and nature at the VIC, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, May 8.

The day starts with breakfast at the VIC — waffles with maple syrup — and then an afternoon of art and nature.

Seventeen members of ArtWorks will be at the VIC for an indoor ArtMarket. Set up in the great room of the VIC, overlooking Heron Marsh, will be displays of art and hand-crafted items.

Participants include the Adirondack Center for Writing; artist Erin Dorney; local author George Bryjak; artist Marie Cogar; local author Yvona Fast; photographer Amy Favro; painter Ann Haskell; local author Caper Tissot; vendors Patrick and Betty Hendrick, Ann Hughes, Jennifer Lieb, Debbie Mowka, Peter Shrope and Martha Watts; and Pendragon Theatre.

VIC staff will be cooking up homemade waffles served with fresh maple syrup, fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. Brunch will be served in the Heron Marsh Gallery space from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission costs $10 per person or $35 for a family of four.

There will also be some free programs presented by VIC staff and volunteers, including a slide talk in the theatre space about spring wildflowers and some guided walks by moms and/or artists on the scenic trails at the VIC.

Saranac Lake ArtWorks is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the various arts in local communities. Plans are in the works for the Third Thursday ArtWalks, which will start up again on June 16. Check SaranacLakeArtWorks.org for more information.
