Second Saranac Lake mayoral forum slated March 9

SARANAC LAKE — A second candidate forum, where voters will have the opportunity to hear from the three candidates for mayor in Saranac Lake, is slated for March 9 at the Hotel Saranac.

A new, locally-based good-government group is teaming up with High Peaks Democratic Socialists of America to organize the in-person forum, which will feature mayoral candidates Jeremy Evans, Melinda Little and Jimmy Williams.

The event will be the second candidate forum of this campaign season, the first being a virtual forum co-hosted by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce on March 1. A recording of that forum is available online at www.facebook.com/adkenterprise and www.facebook.com/slchamber.

The forum hosted by the Tri-Lakes region based Neighbors for Good Gov’t and High Peaks DSA is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. at the Hotel Saranac Grand Ballroom. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and general-admission seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Serving as moderator will be Tim Holmes, a 30-plus-year resident of Saranac Lake who managed a local research and consulting business that completed more than 60 major projects in a wide range of fields. He recently retired as head of the Wild Center’s membership program, is a founding member of the Kiwanis Club of Saranac Lake, and has been active with the village’s Healthy Infrastructure Advisory Board and Friends of Dewey Mountain.

The Tri-Lakes region-based Neighbors for Good Gov’t began meeting this past autumn in the living room of one of its founding members. The group’s main concerns include conflict of interest, favoritism, and what they see as a lack of transparency by the village of Saranac Lake government and mistreatment of residents of the village and neighboring communities by elected officials.

For those who cannot attend in person, the forum will be livestreamed via Facebook at www.facebook.com/adirondackindependentnews. To learn more, email the group at neighborsforgoodgovt@gmail.com or media coordinator Fred Balzac at 518-588-7275. The High Peaks DSA can be reached at highpeaksdsa.@gmail.com.
