LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Sinfonietta will perform 14 concerts over six weeks this summer with 20 musicians from around the country.

The concerts, slated from July 7 to Aug. 15, include six paid concerts at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and six free concerts at the North Elba Show Grounds. The paid concerts will be on Sundays: July 11, July 18, July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 8 and Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The free concerts will be on Wednesdays: July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 11.

The free community concert on July 7 to kick off the season will be at the LPCA. This is a free concert, but a no-cost ticket is required (contact LPCA box office at 518-523-2512 or www.lakeplacidarts.org). All other free Wednesday community concerts are to be held at the Show Grounds Pavilion at 7 p.m. For the pavilion concerts, no ticket is required; these concerts are first-come, first-seated.

For the paid concerts, there is a discounted ticket available for people 18 years old and under. Sunday Symphony concerts are in-person as well as live-streamed. Featured composers include Haydn, Mozart, Bizet, Mendelssohn, Copland, Stravinsky Mussorgsky and Beethoven. Featured soloists are Steven Franklin (trumpet), Daniel Szasz (violin) and Amitai Vardi (clarinet). Wednesday Community concerts are also in-person as well as live-streamed. Featured composers include Sousa, Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, Webber and Lake Placid’s own Victor Herbert and Paul White. Featured works range from marches, waltzes, rhumbas, and polkas to the memorable movie music of “Mission Impossible,” “The Sound of Music,” “West Side Story,” “Frozen” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

For safety purposes, all attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination and proof of identification. Unvaccinated children 11 years old and younger may attend in-person concerts as long as they are in the company of vaccinated family members. All concerts are one hour with no intermission. All programs subject to change.

In addition to the free Wednesday community concerts, the Sinfonietta has a tradition of performing outside of Lake Placid. This year, the “Adirondack Series” concert is a free concert to be held in Saranac Lake at Hotel Saranac on Thursday, July 22 at 7 p.m. No ticket is required, and it is first-come, first-seated. The Adirondack Series concert is in-person only.

This year, the Sinfonietta will delight audiences with a free performance of Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.” This free children’s concert that musically teaches each part of the orchestra while mimicking each character in the enthralling story, will entertain the entire family on Thursday, Aug.12 at 10 a.m. This children’s concert will take place at the show grounds stage as part of the LPCA’s “Open Sky Festival” (contact LPCA box office at 518-523-2512 or www.lakeplacidarts.org). The children’s concert is in-person only.
