LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Center for the Arts on Friday announced the opening of “The Winter 46,” an exhibit featuring the photography of Jonathan Zaharek.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gallery @ LPCA, 17 Algonquin Drive, Lake Placid. The exhibit will run through July. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m., and admission is free.

“The Winter 46” brings to life the journey of emerging photographer Zaharek, who climbed all 46 High Peaks in a span of just three months during the height of winter. This marks the first time, as far as the LPCA is aware, that anyone has documented the entire Winter 46 in high definition for the public.

The exhibit will also feature a collection of works representing each of the 46 High Peaks by 46 different artists from the region, in celebration of the colors, contours and lore surrounding the Adirondack mountains.

Visitors can experience Zaharek’s journey by walking through the collection in the order he hiked the peaks.

Inside the gallery, unvaccinated people will be required to wear a mask while masks are optional for vaccinated individuals. Outdoors, masks are optional regardless of vaccination status.
