Troopers dressed as road workers issue 14 tickets Thursday

The New York State Police and state Department of Transportation announced that 14 tickets were issued during one day of the “Operation Hardhat” initiative on the Adirondack Northway (Interstate 87) in Clinton County.

Operation Hardhat is a joint initiative in which state troopers dress as highway workers to crack down on work zone violations and highlight the importance of safe driving through construction and maintenance zones.

On Thursday, State Police from Troop B, with the assistance of the DOT, patrolled a highway work zone on the Northway in Clinton County. The troopers issued tickets for a variety of violations including speeding, use of a cellphone while driving, and failure to wear a seat belt.

The initiative was considered a success, police said, and plans are in place to roll out more such operations this summer.
