On, comet!

A comet visible to the naked eye streaks across the eastern sky over Lake Champlain Sunday morning from the summit of a hill in Peru. Astrophotographer Tim Connolly, who took the picture, urges people to check out Comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE through the next month. “Right now it is in the early morning sky at sun rise but it will be working its way to the evening sky and toward Ursa Major later this month,” he wrote in an email. He said this comet survived the closest point of its orbit to the sun, which is rare, and is burning off dust and ice. He said he has not seen a comet like this since 1996’s Comet Hyakutake.
