LAKE PLACID — Board of Education member Jeffrey Brownell has resigned from his post, and the Lake Placid Central School District is now looking for residents who may be interested in serving the rest of his term.

The board unanimously accepted Brownell’s resignation at its meeting on Tuesday evening. Brownell, who was first appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 2014 and was recently reelected, could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.

After voting to accept his resignation, Brownell’s colleagues on the school board thanked him for his thoughtful service throughout the years.

“He will be missed,” said board member Martha Spear.

“Jeff will be greatly missed,” said board member Richard Preston. “I appreciate his years of service and wish he and his family well.”

“He offered great perspective, certainly coming from the serious business background he had,” said board member Bryan Liam Kennelly.

Brownell was a project manager at Merrill Lynch for two years before starting the Johns Brook Company, which specialized in software and engineering. He later remodeled properties under Johns Brook LLC.

The person appointed to Brownell’s seat would serve until the next school election in 2021.
