Saranac Lake launches COVID-19 info website

SARANAC LAKE — The village has launched a new COVID-19 data dashboard and informational website.

The village unveiled the new online information hub this past Friday as part of the rollout of its infectious disease operations plan. The village launched the website to ensure residents had access to answers to frequently asked questions as well as up-to-date data from around the region, according to village Public Health Officer Ray Scollin.

The website can be found at tinyurl.com/saranaclakecovid19 or by visiting saranaclakeny.gov and clicking on the first link under COVID-19 information.

It includes the number of test-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Franklin, Essex, Clinton, Hamilton and St. Lawrence counties. Scollin said that data comes from Franklin County’s Emergency Operations Center. It also includes statewide numbers for both New York and Vermont, from each state’s department of health, as well as U.S. and worldwide numbers from Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center.

Scollin said compiling the dashboard with COVID-19 data had its challenges. Numbers released by the state Department of Health don’t necessarily match up with local health departments’ figures.

“At this point in time, I’m using the EOC numbers for locally, and I’m using the (state, national and global) trackers for what’s not being reported in the EOC. It’s kind of a hybrid.”

Saranac Lake’s new website also includes contact information for county and state health departments, links to resources for local businesses and residents who need assistance, and information on what a person should do if they come in contact with someone with COVID-19.
