Lake Placid playgrounds to close

LAKE PLACID — The village and the town will be roping off playgrounds and closing off some public areas in an attempt to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Mayor Craig Randall on Monday said the village and the town of North Elba both plan to rope off playground equipment and install new COVID-19 warning signage at public parks.

The village also intends to close the public restrooms on Main Street, and close off the municipal tennis courts by the public beach, he said.

“It’s a matter of disinfection in each of these cases,” Randall said at the village Board of Trustees’ regular meeting.

Public parks — such as Mids Park on Main Street, Teddy Bear Park on Hillcrest Avenue, Jewtraw Park the municipal park on McKinley Street — will still be open for people to walk through, but visitors are encouraged to continue practicing social distancing.
