Daily shout-out to health workers starts tonight

SARANAC LAKE — Every evening at 7 p.m. there is a shift change at Adirondack Medical Center. The village mayor invites residents to throw open doors and windows to give the local hospital’s workers a big shout-out and thank-you at this time every day, starting Thursday.

Franny Preston of Saranac Lake initiated this effort, according to village Mayor Clyde Rabideau.

“It is time for our community to reconnect and thank our healthcare workers and first responders,” a post on Rabideau’s Facebook page reads. “(It is) a way for you to reconnect with your neighborhood and give public expression, both of which are so much missing from our daily lives at this time.”

Rabideau asked residents to continue this every evening until the pandemic subsides.

“Please, get involved, participate, and connect,” he wrote in the post. “Please, be creative. Send us selfies of your expressions or post them here. Please, send us your ideas on how our community can be more connected at this time. Please share this post.”
