Here are all the known cancellations and postponements due to the coronavirus in the greater Tri-Lakes area.

Post-parade St. Pat’s event canceled

SARANAC LAKE — While this village’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is still on for Saturday at 1 p.m., after-parade events at the Harrietstown Town Hall have been canceled to avoid spreading coronavirus.

In a prepared statement, SLIGO leaders said they made the decision after reviewing the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s directives, and consulting with local municipal officials and public health personnel.

“This was a difficult, but necessary decision,” said Ray Scollin, the public health officer for the village of Saranac Lake and town of Harrietsown, and also an organizer of the parade through the Saranac Lake Irish Gaelic Organization. “CDC guidance for community events suggests that gatherings should be scaled to the current local situation and the type of event being held. Out of an abundance of caution, we modified this year’s plan.”

Howl Story Slam will be rescheduled

SARANAC LAKE — The Howl Story Slam, an open mic storytelling competition scheduled for Friday, March 20 at the Waterhole, will be rescheduled. It is presented by the Adirondack Center for Writing and North Country Public Radio.

NCCC closes athletic center to public

SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community College closed its Sparks Athletic Complex — including pool, fitness center and gym — to the public starting at 5 p.m. Friday. It it tentatively expected to reopen March 30.

LPCA cancels events

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Center for the Arts’ March classes and performances are being postponed or cancelled, beginning Saturday.

Its two galleries currently remain open with normal hours.

The Saranac Lake Baptist Church’s Night of Laughter and worship Saturday is canceled. The Cirque FLIP Fabrique’s “Blizzard” on March 20 will be rescheduled. The livecast of the Met Opera’s “Der Fliegende Hollander” March 21 has been canceled. For March 27, Palissimo’s “Hebel” is canceled, the Adirondack Film Society’s screening of “JoJo Rabbit” will be rescheduled, and the livecast of Bolshoi’s “Swan Lake” March 28 is canceled. On April 3, the “Life in Synchro” screening is canceled.

Dance classes are canceled through spring break. the start of tumbling classes has been postponed from March 17 to April 21. After-school workshops have been canceled through spring break, and all currently scheduled adult workshops (through April) are postponed.

VIC cancels programs this weekend

PAUL SMITHS — The Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center has canceled its public programming for this weekend. Trails are open, as is access to the restrooms and foyer.

Tri-Lakes Humane Society closes to public

SARANAC LAKE — The Tri-Lakes Humane Society is temporarily closed to the public, to prevent the spread of infectious disease, but will be open to potential adopters by appointment only.

Tri-Lakes Humane Society staff noted that domesticated animals are not affected by the coronavirus, but they said this is a good time to make sure that your pets are included in your disaster preparedness plans. They recommend having a two-week supply of pet food, water, medications, veterinary information, medical records, license and/or microchip information, and an emergency contact.

Lake Placid history museum cancels public events

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is suspending public activities and canceling the remaining two lectures in its Winter Lecture Series: “7,000 Miles to a Wilderness Ethic” and “The Fools Rushed In: Murray’s Fools.” The group said it hopes to present these at a later date.

“Currently, we are planning to open the History Museum for the season on May 23rd and present the gallery preview tour we have planned on May 14th,” Parmelee Tolkan, president of the society’s board of trustees, said in a statement.

Church drops coffee hour

SARANAC LAKE — The Episcopal Church of St. Luke, the Beloved Physician, has canceled Sunday morning coffee hours until further notice. Worship services will continue.

Bingo called off

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Adult Center has canceled bingo at 7 p.m. Mondays, until further notice.

Civil Service exams canceled this weekend

SARANAC LAKE — The New York State Department of Civil Service on Friday announced that it has postponed the state exams scheduled for Saturday and Sunday due to the coronavirus. Tests were planned for locations throughout the state, including the Saranac Lake High School on Saturday. The exams will be rescheduled at a later date. All impacted candidates will be notified of an alternative test date.

“At the New York State of Department of Civil Service, we greatly value the safety and welfare of our employees and the outstanding service you provide to the individuals taking Civil Service Exams,” the department emailed its test monitors.

Whiteface cancels events

WILMINGTON — Whiteface Mountain Ski Center has canceled events in upcoming weeks.

Whiteface tweeted the following cancellations: all live music, March 14 Rail Jam, March 14 History Tour, March 15 Give Back Sunday, March 15 Season Pass Party, March 21 Moguls, March 28 Grommet Jam, April 4 Banked Slalom, April 11 Pond Skimming, April 12 Easter events.

Synchronized Skating worlds canceled

LAKE PLACID — The World Synchronized Skating Championships, scheduled for April 3 and 4 in Lake Placid, have been canceled, according to Mike Pratt, CEO of the state Olympic Regional Development Authority, which manages Lake Placid’s winter sports venues.

Renzi Food Show

LAKE PLACID — The Renzi Food Show has been canceled for April 28 in Lake Placid.

R.O.S.E. awards postponed

SARANAC LAKE — In an effort to support community health and out of an abundance of caution for honorees, members and guests, the Zonta Club of the Adirondacks has postponed its third annual R.O.S.E. Scholarship Awards Brunch, previously scheduled for March 28 at the Hotel Saranac. Ticket holders will be advised of the new date as soon as that is announced, and will also have the option for a refund now or at that time.

SATs canceled for Saturday

LAKE PLACID — Northwood School on Friday canceled the SAY college entrance exams it hosts, scheduled for Saturday.

‘The Back Door’ at Pendragon

SARANAC LAKE — Adirondack Voters for Change has canceled its presentation, “The Back Door,” a collaboration between photographer Paula Allen and refugee activist Janet McFetridge, scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Pendragon Theatre.

Saranac Lake sports

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Central School District is canceling all athletic contests from March 16 to April 20. Practices will still continue as scheduled.

Community Supper goes takeout only

SARANAC LAKE — The Wednesday night community suppers at the First United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake have been switched to takeout only from 5 to 6 p.m. in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Rev. Eric Olsen, pastor of Saranac Lake’s Methodist and Lutheran churches, said their worship services will still proceed as normal at 63 Church St. The church can be reached at 518-891-3473.

It’s not fully established yet, but Olsen said he is putting together a volunteer group that will buy groceries for those under home-quarantine.

Tedra Cobb

SARANAC LAKE — A petition signing party for Tedra Cobb scheduled for Sunday, March 15 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Rich Shapiro and Lindy Ellis’s house has been canceled.

Carousel closes

SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Carousel is closed until further notice.

Anzac Day

SARANAC LAKE — The village’s ceremonies for Anzac Day, April 25, have been canceled.

Saranac Village at Will Rogers stops public events

SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Village at Will Rogers is temporarily ceasing all public programs due to the continued spread of the coronavirus.

All games (chess, pinochle, bridge, game night, bingo, etc.) are suspended, as well as chair yoga classes, concerts, lectures and group meetings. “We will resume these as soon as it is safe to do so,” Executive Director Jamie Whidden said in a press release. “While visitors are still welcome, we ask that those who do come to Will Rogers think first about the health and well-being of the residents, and please do not come if you are sick, if you have traveled recently, or if you have potentially been exposed to any one who has been sick.”

Library Lunch program postponed

SARANAC LAKE — The March 19 presentation of the Library Lunch program, “A Season in Shangri-la: a Medical Journey to Bhutan,” at the Saranac Lake Free Library has been postponed indefinitely due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus, and advice from public health officials to limit large public gatherings.

ECAC, CAN/AM hockey tournaments canceled

LAKE PLACID — Two huge hockey tournaments here — the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s final four and the CAN/AM Challenge Cup for younger players — have been canceled as concerns continue over the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The CAN/AM hockey tournament was set to begin here Thursday. That morning, CAN/AM Hockey officials urged athletes and their families not to travel to the Olympic Village.

The ECAC semifinal and championship games had been scheduled for March 20 and 21. Those with tickets are being offered full refunds through the state Olympic Regional Development Authority box office.

Monobob race, development camp canceled

LAKE PLACID — The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation announced Thursday that its women’s monobob race and development camp slated for March 23 to April 3 in Lake Placid has been canceled.

The federation said the events were canceled “due to the travel restrictions and general concerns following the spread of the COVID-19 virus.”

“The IBSF wants to thank NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority and the track management in Lake Placid for their great support in this challenging time for all of us,” the federation wrote in a notice on its website.

Trivia Night canceled

LAKE PLACID — The Rotary Club of Lake Placid’s Trivia Night on Wednesday, March 18 has been canceled.

Wild Center

TUPPER LAKE — Starting today, the Wild Center will be temporarily closed. It intends to reopen May 1.

Libraries postpone some events

The Goff-Nelson Memorial Library in Tupper Lake has canceled all on-site meetings and events for the rest of March, including the pre-K story hour on Tuesdays. There is one exception, as it is off-site: the Moms Book Club meeting on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Well Dressed Foods on Park Street, Tupper Lake.

All events held in the Saranac Lake Free Library’s Cantwell Room through the end of March are being rescheduled for April. The library will still operate as usual.

The Lake Placid Public Library’s Dinosaur Day on March 20 will be postponed until May.
