Franklin County GOP committee endorses Dan Stec for state Senate

State Assemblyman Dan Stec picked up the official endorsement of the Franklin County Republican committee Wednesday.

Stec, of Queensbury, is one of three Republicans and four candidates running to succeed longtime Sen. Betty Little, R-Queensbury, who is not seeking reelection. Kimberly Davis, a Democrat from Plattsburgh, has already secured endorsements from all six of the 45th Senate District’s six county Democratic committees.

Franklin County’s Republican committee was the fourth to endorse Stec, and none has endorsed either of his potential Republican primary rivals. Retired English teacher Kevin Beary of Colton, St. Lawrence County, announced his candidacy in December. Cambridge village Mayor Carman Bogle of Washington County announced hers earlier this week.

“When it came to selecting a candidate to endorse for the State Senate’s 45th District, Dan Stec was the obvious, best choice,” Franklin County Republican Chairwoman Shelley Mulverhill said in a statement issued by Stec’s campaign Wednesday. “He has a strong reputation in the Assembly for his legislative record, work ethic and devotion to his constituents. Dan will make an outstanding successor to Sen. Little, and we look forward to working with him in the months and years to come.”

Stec said the St. Lawrence and Washington County parties are expected to make their endorsements within the next few weeks.
