Cobb doesn’t support removal of Trump without a fair trial

PLATTSBURGH — Democratic Congressional candidate Tedra Cobb told reporters she does not support removing President Donald Trump from office, then later clarified her position.

The question had not come up during a roundtable she held at the Koffee Kat Tuesday night.

In a statement, Cobb said she supported sending articles of impeachment to the Senate.

“However, the Senate failed to conduct a proper trial that included witnesses,” she continued.

“While I am incredibly disturbed by the behavior of the President, I could not support removal without a fair trial.”

She said the American people will have a chance to vote in November.

“In the meantime, Congress should get back to the work they were sent to do: fixing our broken healthcare system, lowering prescription drug costs and protecting Medicare and Social Security.”

Asked what the rhetoric surrounding the impeachment process and the impact on her own campaign says about the state of affairs in the country, Cobb said it was important for her to remember that she is running against North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.

She cited some of Stefanik’s health care-related votes that she disagreed with, which she argued were contrary to constituents’ interests.

“That’s why I’m in this race. So whatever is swirling around in Washington, that is Elise Stefanik’s life and that is her focus.

My focus is on the people here and making our lives better.”
