Woodruff bakery gets review for site plan
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Development Board approved a site plan review for a bakery on Woodruff Street at Tuesday night’s board meeting.
Mark and Susan “Jill” Zagrobelny, who run Early Dawn Confections, said with their property at 28 Woodruff St., they would convert the downstairs into a bakery and pastry shop, and keep the upstairs as an apartment. The property is across from the Saranac Lake Youth Center, one door down from the corner of Woodruff Street and Church Street.
Village Code Enforcement Officer Paul Blaine pointed out that part of the property and a structure is on a stormwater easement. Mark said the structure is for rubbish and can be easily taken apart and moved if needed.
Mark and Jill said the plan is to get the bakery up and running by the spring.
Jill said she’s been baking out of her home and selling products such as scones, croissants and apple fritters at farmers markets since 2011.
“I want them to feel like they’re coming to visit at my house,” Jill said in a previous interview. “You know, it’s just like going to see a neighbor.”
