Winter weather makes roads slick, delays or cancels classes

Most local schools delayed classes this morning due to icy conditions and a wintry mix of precipitation.

North Country Community College canceled all its classes today at its campuses in Saranac Lake, Malone and Ticonderoga, due to worsening weather conditions in the Malone area.

Paul Smith’s College started classes at 11 a.m.

Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Placid, AuSable Valley and Keene schools delayed the start of the school day by two hours to give time for weather to improve and for highway crews to clear roads.

The Saranac Lake Adult Center was closed for the day.

In Saranac Lake, rain began falling Monday night, some of it freezing, and by Tuesday morning commute time roads were icy. Later Tuesday morning the rain turned to snow.
