Westport road closed next week

The state Department of Transportation announced Friday that state Route 9N in Westport will be closed this coming week, and U.S. Route 9 in Schroon Lake will be slowed for pavement work.

Route 9N will be closed at the CP Rail bridge near the Essex County Fairgrounds, between Ledge Hill Road and Sisco Street, starting Monday at 3 p.m. The closure will allow for work on the rail bridge. The road is expected to reopen by Friday at 3 p.m.

A signed detour will be posted for motorists to use Route 22 and Sam Spear Road (Essex County Route 60).

Route 9 in Schroon Lake will be reduced to a single alternating lane controlled by flaggers between Route 74 and Jordan Street weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through October. The work schedule is weather dependent.

Drivers are urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
