Hannaford deli cheese recalled

LAKE PLACID — White American cheese has been recalled from Hannaford Supermarkets, including the one here, after it was discovered that the cheese may contain metal fragments.

Hannaford stores throughout the Northeast recalled both pre-packaged and freshly sliced cheese bearing the Hannaford brand from the stores’ deli departments.

The store’s Lake Placid location received notification about the recall and has taken the product off the shelves. Customers who purchased white American cheese from the deli in Lake Placid between Sept. 8 and Oct. 8 are asked not to eat the cheese. They can return the product to the store for a full refund.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported as a result of the recall, according to a news release from Hannaford Supermarkets.

The on-duty manager of the Lake Placid Hannaford deferred comment to the store’s corporate office. A spokesperson for Hannaford was not immediately available for comment before press time.
