SARANAC LAKE — At the end of the month, Stewart’s Shop in Saranac Lake will no longer be open 24 hours a day.

That means the nearest store open 24 hours is Price Chopper in Lake Placid, and the nearest gas station open 24 hours will soon be at least an hour’s drive away.

On Sept. 30, the Stewart’s on 27 Bloomingdale Ave. will be closed from midnight to 4:30 a.m., according to Stewart’s spokesperson Erica Komoroske. The gas pumps will also be turned off during those four-and-a-half hours.

Komorske did not say what exactly prompted the change in hours, but she said Stewart’s hopes to be open 24 hours again in the spring of 2020.

“It’s not where it needs to be for us to serve the public,” Komoroske said.
