Broadway properties fail to sell at auction

Saranac Lake village Mayor Clyde Rabideau, center, accepts a closed bid from Cameron Ladue, store manager for Taylor Rental, for two parcels of village land on Broadway at a sealed-bid auction Monday afternoon on the steps of the Harrietstown Town Hall. SARANAC LAKE — The auction for two wooded parcels of village land between Taylor Rental and the Saranac Lake Baptist Church on Broadway attracted one closed bid that village officials said was too low.

At 4 p.m. Monday on the Harrietstown Town Hall steps, Mayor Clyde Rabideau acted as bid caller for an audience of mostly village officials. The one interested individual present, Cameron Ladue, store manager for Taylor Rental, handed a closed bid to Rabideau after the auction.

After the auction, when asked if the business was looking to expand, Ladue said “possibly, we will see what happens.”

The village Board of Trustees then went into executive session to discuss the bid. At the village board meeting at 5:30, Rabideau said the bid from Ladue was too low to consider. The mayor would not release the bid amount but said it was below the minimum bid of $170,000. He said the new minimum bid for the combined parcels will be $125,000.

Another auction was set to precede the Feb. 11, 2019, board meeting. A 10 percent nonrefundable deposit submitted at the end of the auction is also required by the village. The two parcels, with a combined 3.14 acres, are vacant, with access to municipal water and sewer.

One of the lots has an environmental easement on its use, placed after contaminants were found on site.
