Fall farmer’s markets events in Saranac Lake, Upper Jay

SARANAC LAKE – Two farmers markets are just launching into their seasons right now: Snowy Grocery at Sugar House Creamery in Upper Jay and Saranac Lake Fall Market at the Hotel Saranac.

Snowy Grocery is held Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring cheeses, veggies, meats and often prepared foods right at the farmstead creamery where Sugar House produces their cheeses.

The Hotel Saranac is hosting the fall Saranac Lake market for the first time this year, featuring fresh baked goods, eggs, cheeses, meats, crafts and more. It will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. SNAP and matching Fresh Connect dollars can be used.

At two November events, the public will have the opportunity to tour each market, meet the farmers, try some of their cuisine and participate in a cooking demo incorporating seasonal, local food right from the market. These events will kick off Saturday, Nov. 3 at Saranac Lake’s Fall Market and Sunday, Nov. 11 at Snowy Grocery, both events at 11 a.m. Because organizers seek a small group for tastings and discussion, space is limited, so register by emailing Carly Summers at cfs82@cornell.edu or calling 518-962-4810.

These events are designed and hosted as a collaboration between Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County and The Hub on the Hill, with funding from CCE Essex, Adirondack North Country Association’s Farmshare Fund, Adirondack Harvest, and the Ausable Valley Grange Farmers’ Market Cooperative.
