Lake Placid Ironman 70.3 road closures
LAKE PLACID — State police have decided on temporary road closures throughout this village that will begin at 5 a.m. on Sunday, the day of the inaugural Ironman Lake Placid 70.3-mile triathlon.
The race will begin later and last until 5 p.m., a span of time seven hours shorter than the 140.6-mile Ironman triathlon race that has taken place each July on the roads surrounding this village since 1999. Swim starts begin at 7 a.m., at Mirror Lake, and the swim course closes at 9:10 a.m. The bike course closes at 1:30 p.m.
Ray Brook-based state police ask those who plan to travel in the Tri-Lakes corridor on Sunday to use caution and expect delays.
Temporary road closures include state Route 86 northbound into Lake Placid from Wilmington beginning at 7 a.m., and lasting until 2:30 p.m.
State Route 86 will also be closed westbound from Jay into Wilmington from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
State Route 9N will be closed northbound from Keene to Jay from 6 a.m until 2 p.m.
State Route 9N will also be closed in both directions between Jay and AuSable Forks from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
State Route 73 will be closed going south and eastbound from Lake Placid to Keene from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Police say to expect delays in Lake Placid, Wilmington and Jay from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Athletes will traverse one lap of the swim, bike and run course, instead of the two laps required in the full Ironman Lake Placid.
