Woman pleads guilty in death of her 2-year-old son
An AuSable Forks woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to recklessly causing the death of her 2-year-old son.
Patricia Giddings, 22, appeared before Judge Keith Bruno in Clinton County Court and pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony, according to the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh. The plea satisfies all charges, which initially included second-degree murder, criminally negligent homicide and making a punishable false written statement.
Giddings and her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Bushey, 24, of New Jersey, were responsible for Ellyah J. Elvidge on Aug. 9 2016, when Elvidge died from asphyxiation. An investigation from the county district attorney’s office, state police Troop B Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Clinton County Children and Youth Services revealed the toddler caught his neck in a notch cut in a sheet of plywood, which had been installed in the doorway to keep him contained.
Giddings will return to court at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 30 for sentencing. Second-degree manslaughter carries a minimum sentence of one to three years in prison and a maximum of five to 15 years.
