TICONDEROGA (AP) — New York’s Assembly Speaker and self-professed Trekkie has taken a detour from a trip to a subway car factory to take a spin on the Starship Enterprise.

Speaker Carl Heastie, who has been known to quote Mr. Spock during discussions of state policy, visited the Star Trek Original Series Set Tour in Ticonderoga during a trip to northern New York Tuesday. The Bronx Democrat strummed a Vulcan harp, sat in Captain Kirk’s chair and worked the lights on a model of the Federation starship.

He said he felt like he was 10 years old again.

After he left Ticonderoga at the southern tip of Lake Champlain, Heastie headed to Plattsburgh to tour the Bombardier plant that produces rail cars for New York City’s subway.
