DEC to take comments on rail trail plan

The state Department of Environmental Conservation will take public comments and answering questions on the conceptual plan for the Adirondack Rail Trail at two public meetings this week.

The DEC will host the public in Tupper Lake in the Community Room of the Tupper Lake Emergency Services Building at 31 Santa Clara Ave. on Tuesday, and at its headquarters in Ray Brook on Wednesday.

The meetings will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. each day, and then again from 6 to 8 p.m.

DEC spokesman David Winchell said in an email to the Enterprise that during the afternoon sessions, members of the public will be able to address their comments and concerns directly to DEC staff, either verbally or in writing. During the evening sessions, DEC staff will give a presentation on the conceptual plan for the trail, and the public will have the opportunity to make comments.

The DEC is taking public comments on the plan until June 2. Comments can be sent in writing to Senior Forester Steve Guglielmi, NYSDEC Region 5, P.O. Box 296, Ray Brook, NY 12977, or sent by email to r5.ump@dec.ny.gov.

The full conceptual plan can be found on the DEC’s website at www.dec.ny.gov/lands/62816.html.
