DEC seeks water quality volunteers
The state Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking volunteers to help monitor the water quality of streams and rivers across the state.
The DEC’s Water Assessments by Volunteer Evaluators program conducts initial assessment sampling of streams, which can then be used by professional DEC staff to determine whether a stream is in need of additional monitoring.
Volunteers visit a stream once during the summer and collect macroinvertebrates, or aquatic insects.
DEC is offering volunteer training on Tuesday, May 30 at SUNY Plattsburgh and Wednesday, May 31 at the Willsboro Visitor Center.
