Snow factory

As seen on Tuesday, this Snow Factory — manufactured by TechnoAlpin — was recently delivered to the Olympic Sports Complex cross-country ski lodge at Mount Van Hoevenberg. The ski center’s nordic program manager, Kris Cheney Seymour, declined to comment about the machine at that time. The facility has not had snowmaking capabilities in the past; therefore, the Snow Factory could potentially be a game changer for the state Olympic Regional Development Authority as it markets the ski center for community skiing, tourism and competition. Last winter, the trails were only open for 37 days due to unseasonably warm temperatures. According to the TechnoAlpin website, the Snow Factory offers “a snow-making system for use at above-zero temperatures.” Traditional snowguns need temperatures of 28 degrees or below to work. The facility’s Facebook page featured photos of its first pile of artificial snow on Thursday. (Enterprise photo — Andy Flynn)
