Adirondack Lakes Alliance receives stewardship award

FULTON — The Adirondack Landowners Association has named the Adirondack Lakes Alliance the recipient of the 2016 ALA Stewardship Award.

The alliance won the award for helping organize lake and river associations throughout the Adirondack Park, and for creating awareness of the threats to the environment and economy from aquatic invasive species, according to a press release.

Local government, state agencies, residents and stakeholders assisted the alliance with its initiatives.

“In accepting this award, we do so on behalf of the many lake and river associations throughout the Adirondack region and their thousands of volunteers who serve as first responders in addressing issues affecting our waterways,” Adirondack Lakes Alliance Executive Director Ed Griesmer said in the release. “This award helps to give recognition to the important role they play in keeping our waters clean and safe for all to use and enjoy.”

The Landowners Association will present the award to the Lakes Alliance at its winter meeting on Dec. 2 at the Adirondack League Club in Old Forge.

The association was founded in 1990 to promote stewardship and resource management by private landowners.
