Short named acting Long Lake school superintendent

LONG LAKE – Tupper Lake resident Noelle Short was appointed recently as acting superintendent and principal of the Long Lake Central School District, effective Oct. 1.

Long Lake Superintendent Donald K. Carlisle will take a temporary medical leave of absence for the remainder of the school year. He will work closely with Short as a consultant to the district and plans to return to the superintendent job in July if he is able, according to a press release from the school.

Short has taught grade 7 to 12 English language arts in the district for the past six years and has served as lead teacher. In that role, she oversaw building safety, operations and discipline when the superintendent was out of the building.

Short served in leadership roles for the Long Lake Central School Teachers Association and was a member of the school Technology Committee and Student Learning Plan Committee. Both of these committees are central to initiatives introduced for the 2016-17 school year.

Short is a 2001 graduate of Tupper Lake Middle-High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College and an Master of Arts in English from Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. Currently she is pursuing a Certificate of Advanced Study in education administration at SUNY Plattsburgh, with anticipated completion in May 2017. She also worked as an outdoors and sports writer for the Enterprise from 2005 to 2007.

“I am honored to take on the position of Acting Principal/Superintendent for the 2016-2017 school year,” she said in the release. “Long Lake Central School is a one-of-a-kind place with exceptional students, staff, and faculty where people take care of one another like they would their own family.”
