N.Y.’s trapping season begins, with changes

ALBANY (AP) – The hunting and trapping season for furbearing animals including bobcats, foxes, raccoons and fishers is about to begin.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation says coyote hunting season began Oct. 1 in much of the state, but hunting and trapping seasons for other furbearers don’t start until today.

The agency says trappers should note changes to fisher and marten trapping seasons, as well as changes to some general trapping regulations. They’re outlined on DEC’s website .

This fall is the fourth season for an expanded bobcat harvest in eastern New York and the Southern Tier. Trappers need a special permit for that.
