AMC expansion groundbreaking is next week

SARANAC LAKE – Adirondack Health invites community members to a groundbreaking ceremony for its expansion project at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12.

The ceremony will take place on the building site at the rear of the main Adirondack Medical Center building. Attendees are asked to arrive via Old Lake Colby Road. Staff will assist with parking.

Building plans and artist renderings will be on display, and refreshments will be served.

The roughly 37,000-square-foot, two-level addition will house a new surgical suite with six operating rooms and three procedure rooms, relocation of an existing endoscopy suite, a replacement MRI suite, and a new sterile processing area. Current operating rooms date to the 1960s.

It’s the biggest building project at AMC-Saranac Lake since the Redfield Medical Office Building, completed in 2001.

The Saranac Lake expansion is one of two major projects Adirondack Health is planning that will cost a combined $33 million. The other is a new medical fitness facility next to the Uihlein Living Center nursing home on Old Military Road in Lake Placid.
