Wilmington Wild Forest UMP OK’d

WILMINGTON – State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos has formally approved a plan that amends the Wilmington Wild Forest Unit Management Plan.

The amendment called for several miles of new trails, rerouting of some existing trails to limit erosion and environmental degradation, and adds two parking lots and an accessible boardwalk with a picnic area overlooking a wetland.

The Wilmington Wild Forest is a hotbed for mountain biking, and some of the new trails will connect popular biking areas. The 16,900-acre forest is also home to hiking, skiing and snowmobile trails, as well as fishing and rock climbing opportunities.
