Rangers continue busy summer
State Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers and interior caretakers continued a busy summer of rescues with almost a half-dozen rescues in the last week.

Just before sundown on Monday, July 4, DEC dispatch in Ray Brook received a call about a 22-year-old woman from Utica who was in medical distress.
The Lake Colden interior outpost caretaker hiked to the Uphill Lean-to and assessed the woman who decided that she would spend the night at the lean-to and hike out in the morning.
The next day, DEC determined that the woman needed to be evacuated by state police aviation, and she was flown to a local hospital for treatment.

A 56-year-old man from Malone found himself in medical distress at a Lake Arnold campsite on Tuesday, July 5.
Forest rangers and state police aviation transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Town of Tupper Lake
The Raquette Falls interior caretaker requested assistance from DEC dispatch for a 50-year-old man from Fitzburg, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 8.
The caretaker got the man to Coreys Road, where a forest ranger and an environmental conservation officer met them. The man was taken to a waiting Saranac Lake ambulance for transport to a local hospital.

Town of Harrietstown
A 53-year-old woman from Saratoga Springs called DEC dispatch on July 8 to report that her husband had not returned from hiking a pair of High Peaks.
The man had activated his personal satellite beacon and texted that he was lost but not injured. The GPS coordinates showed that the man was on the trail. The satellite company told the man to follow the trail in a northerly direction.
A forest ranger located the man at 10:30 p.m. and escorted him to his vehicle.

Town of Ticonderoga
Essex County 911 transferred a call from three lost hikers to DEC dispatch on Saturday, July 9.
A 26-year-old woman, 27-year-old man and 24-year-old man, all from Rochester, got lost on private property at Cook’s Mountain Preserve.
Two rangers responded and were able to make voice contact with the trio shorty before 8 p.m. They were escorted back to their vehicle in good health.
