Lake Placid looks forward to Fourth of July celebration

LAKE PLACID – Lake Placid is readying for its Fourth of July celebration featuring a parade, activities all afternoon, a free concert and the “Set the Night to Music” fireworks extravaganza.

Everyone is invited to participate in the community’s annual Independence Day parade, which runs down Main Street at 5 p.m. Put together a float, bring out a classic car, or just don some patriotic duds and march. To participate in the parade, call Sue Cameron at the Lake Placid Convention and Visitors Bureau at 518-523-2445. Parade participants will line up at 4:30 on Cummins Road in front of the Olympic Center and be ready to start marching by 4:50 p.m. From there, the parade turns left onto Main Street and ends at the High Peaks Resort at Saranac Avenue.

Throughout the afternoon, WSLP 93.3-FM will host activities in Mid’s Park, and attendees can enjoy a free concert by local jazz band Le Groove from 7 to 9 p.m.

Also throughout the day, the I Love BBQ Festival will be held at the Olympic Speedskating Oval, with food, live music and other events, raising money for the local youth center.

Fireworks will begin promptly at 9:45 p.m. over Mirror Lake. They are choreographed to music that is broadcast live over WSLP 93.3-FM and amplified through Mid’s Park, the post office parking lot and the Mirror Lake beach.
