DEC: Upper Locks will close for repairs this week

SARANAC LAKE – The Upper Locks between Lower and Middle Saranac lakes will be closed for repairs for a few days.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation, in a press release, said the locks are expected to close Tuesday and reopen Friday, June 24.

“The fill gates on the locks are being repaired to allow for larger water flows, which will result in the locks filling in less time,” the release said. “Boaters will be able to move through the locks quicker after the repairs are completed.”

Once the locks are reopened, DEC staff will be on site daily during the day to operate the locks.

At the Lower Locks on the Saranac River between Oseetah and Lower Saranac lakes, DEC staff currently are present on a daily basis during the daytime to operate the locks.

DEC staff will be present at both set of locks through Labor Day.
