Police ID drowned fisherman

HAGUE (AP) – Police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old fisherman on Lake George in the Adirondacks.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says David Strasser’s body was found near his canoe in the lake south of Hague Beach on Thursday morning. Police believe his canoe flooded in cold, choppy water and that he was unable to get to the shore 75 yards away.

Strasser was wearing a personal flotation device as well as what authorities described as “multiple layers of weather-appropriate clothing.”

Lake water temperatures were around 50 degrees.

Investigators believe the Lake George resident drowned, possibly weighed down by his clothing. His body will be examined at an Albany hospital to determine the cause of death.
