Fire and Ice Festival hosts film fundraiser
TUPPER LAKE – The Fire and Ice Festival will screen a ski movie at the Adirondack State Theater Thursday as its final fundraising event of the year.
Lead organizer Christine Marquis-Day said the festival will screen “Fade to Winter” from MSP Films, co-directed by Tupper Lake native Scott Gaffney. Doors for the event will open at 6:30 p.m., and the film will begin at 7:30 p.m. A $20 donation includes admission to the film, drinks, food, and raffle prizes.
“We’re giving a bunch of stuff away,” Marquis-Day said, adding that every ticket is automatically entered into the raffle drawing. “We’ll also sell raffle tickets for a dollar a piece or six for $5.”
According to MSP Films’ website, “Fade to Winter” features action from Alaska, Iceland, British Columbia, Japan, Colorado, Italy and New England. The film “captures the spirit of ten skiers who go to great lengths for the sport that they love.”
This is the second year the festival has screened a ski movie from MSP Films. The festival held its first fundraiser of the year, the Adirondack Castle Cocktail Party, at Tupper Lake’s Leary Castle Sept. 26. Marquis-Day said the festival reached its goal for the event, although she wouldn’t give the total. She said she hopes to raise $8,000 for 2016’s festival.
The Fire and Ice Festival will take place Feb. 20 and 21. Marquis-Day said she plans on having many of the same attractions as last year’s festival, including bonfires, dogsled rides, horse-drawn sleigh rides, fire dancers, cross-country skiing, a craft fair, live music and fireworks. She set up a donation page at www.gofundme.com/jv2zy0.
Advance tickets for the screening are available at the Wawbeek Quick Stop and the Trails End Tavern. Tickets will also be available at the theater the night of the event. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/fireicefestivaltupperlake.
