Red Storm softball falls to Peru
PERU — The Peru softball team broke open a tight game by scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning on the way to claiming a 22-7 victory at home over Saranac Lake on Thursday.
Playing in their second Champlain Valley Athletic Conference contest this week, the Red Storm trailed just 8-7 scoring two runs in their fifth trip to the plate, but the Indians then took control with their fifth-inning barrage that lifted them into an 18-7 lead.
Olivia Bousquet paced Peru with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, which included two home runs. Allie Beattie also had a big offensive afternoon for the winners, going 4-for-5 with a double and a triple.
Sophomore Annabelle Bombard-Schmidt led Saranac Lake with a pair of singles.
Kiersten McCarthy picked up the pitching win for Peru. Katie Gay started in the circle for the Red Storm and was replaced in the third inning by Jayda Buckley.
Peru outhit Saranac Lake 14-5.
