Vonn will have to wait to race men

ZURICH (AP) — Lindsey Vonn’s quest to race against the men in a World Cup event remains on hold for the moment.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard presented its proposal to the International Ski Federation’s Alpine executive board Tuesday, with the topic being tabled until the spring. Vonn, the all-time winningest female World Cup racer, is hoping to race a downhill versus the men during the 2018-19 season. The U.S. petitioned FIS on her behalf.

Alpine director Patrick Riml is encouraged, saying, “there is support for the proposal among members of the executive board but also many points to clarify with FIS.”

The proposal will be addressed in mid-May.

With 77 World Cup wins, Vonn is chasing the mark of 86 held by Ingemar Stenmark. Her focus also is on the Pyeongchang Olympics in February.
