LAKE PLACID — Summit Lacrosse Ventures will make its season return to Lake Placid with the High Peaks Summit Classic on Saturday and Sunday. This is the second year for the High Peaks tournament, born from the demand by the over 18 and over 25 age group teams that could not gain access to the August classic. There will be 10 teams, including two First Responders teams.

As the High Peaks Summit Classic concludes, the Lake Placid Summit Youth Classic, now in its third year, comes to town June 25-27 featuring 45 teams ranging from first grade competitors to 10th graders.

Over the course of the entire SLV season in Lake Placid, the spectrum of ages will range from seven and eight years old, to 65 and older, male and female.

This is the start of a four-event lineup that continues in July with the Northstar Invitational at Northwood School in Lake Placid and culminates with the week-long Summit Lacrosse Classic July 30 through Aug. 5.

The annual Northstar Invitational, a lacrosse combine for scholastic women, is set for July 23-26 with 10 teams participating. Many of the nation’s top college coaches provide high-level visibility for the athletes.

The classic that ends the SLV season in August will see the inclusion of the new Summit 7s — for scholastic girls — in mid-week. A myriad of other special events will also highlight the Summit Lacrosse Classic.

In all, the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism has estimated this year’s total economic impact (direct spending) in Lake Placid will exceed last year’s $7 million total as a result of SLV’s lineup.

“The signs of truly great events are those that create situations where everyone benefits,” said Ashley Gersuk Murphy, CEO of Summit Lacrosse Ventures. “We are very happy to bring so many visitors to Lake Placid. It’s been our goal to host these events to satisfy a demand for people to enjoy this sport and this community. But at the same time, it’s been important for us to see local businesses benefit as well.”

The High Peaks, Lake Placid and Summit classics will be held at the recently upgraded North Elba fields, located off state Route 73 just outside Lake Placid. As always, spectators can park and view the action free of charge.
