Bombers heating up on links

LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid’s golfers continued their solid play at home, blanking AuSable Valley 6-0 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action at Craig Wood.

For the second day in a row, Drew Maiorca fired a two-under par 33 on the back nine to lead the Blue Bombers. Competing in the team’s top spot, the senior captain downed Jeffery Miller, whose 48 was the low round of the day for the Patriots.

Two other Blue Bombers, Hunter Wilmot and Lars Kroes also carded rounds in the 30s to earn wins. Wilmot finished with a career-best, two-over par 37 to defeat Conor Bushey in the second pairing, and Kroes turned in a 39 to beat Dylan Straight in the third match.

Cole Jacques and Brady Trembley finished with rounds of 46 to pick up wins in the fifth and sixth matches, and Brendon Bullock shot a 55 to win at No. 4 for Lake Placid.

With the win, Lake Placid improved to 6-2 in a very tight race for the top spot in the CVAC.

The Blue Bombers will play at home again Thursday against Ticonderoga starting at 3:20 p.m.

Saranac Lake 3.5, Moriah 2.5

RAY BROOK — Saranac Lake’s golfers earned a big victory at home in Ray Brook on Tuesday, taking down Moriah 3.5-2.5 to improve to 3-4 in the CVAC.

Zach Gladd, Will McClure and Connor O’Brien came through with wins in the middle of the top six to lead the Red Storm to victory.

Competing at No. 3, Gladd fired a 45 to edge Moriah’s Alex Larrow by a single stroke, and McClure and O’Brien both finished with rounds of 51 to defeat Ryan Munson and Dylan Trombley in the fourth and fifth matches.

Vikings’ senior Joey Stahl stayed unbeaten in CVAC by defeating Saranac Lake’s Ray Amell in the matchup between each team’s top golfer. Stahl shot a two-under par 34 to earn medalist honors. Amell, meanwhile, turned in Saranac Lake’s lowest round, a 43.

Thomas Clark also won for Moriah, shooting a 45 to beat Zach Churco of the Red Storm in the second match. Saranac Lake’s Carson Ryan and Dewey Snyder finished even at No. 6, both with rounds of 59.

Saranac Lake is next slated to host Plattsburgh on Thursday.
