North Country women’s hoops season ends in semis

CANANDAIGUA — The North Country Community College women’s basketball season came to an end Saturday with a 71-61 loss to Columbia-Greene in the NJCAA Region III semfinals at Finger Lakes Community College.

The Saints, who were the No. 2 seed in the final four, finished with a 24-5 overall record. Third-seeded Columbia-Greene went on to lose in the championship game 97-80 against Onondaga.

North Country controlled Saturday’s game early, taking a 13-point lead with less than a minute left in the half. Columbia-Greene put together a 27-14 third quarter and capitalized on NCCC’s poor shooting in the fourth to lock up the victory.

Ty Taylor paced the Saints with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while teammates Jasmine Perea and Demerika Mosely each contributed 10 points.

Columbia-Greene was led by All’aha Albright, who scored a team-high 16 points. The Twins finished with a 25-3 overall record.

The North Country men’s team was eliminated from the Region III tournament last Wednesday after a 96-91 loss to Cayuga. Herkimer won the men’s title with a 74-64 victory over Fulton-Montgomery.
