Skiers take on Queensbury relays
QUEENSBURY — The Saranac Lake boys cross country ski team slid to a third-place finish while the Lake Placid girls team placed second at the Queensbury relays on Saturday.
Lake Placid’s Marli Damp (10:57.5), Sarah Rose-McCandlish (11:45.5) and Lily Flanigan (12:16.3) placed second in the field of 32 teams with a combined time of 34 minutes, 59.3 seconds. Queensbury’s number one team of Bailey Gengel, Maggie Borgos and Emily Atamanchuck finished first with a time of 34:25.2.
The Blue Bombers’ second relay team of Annie Rose-McCandlish, Bea Hollander and Sophia Kelting placed fifth with a combined time of 34:59.5, while Saranac Lake’s first team placed 20th, with Sylvie Linck, Raechel Villani and Dellice Chase combining for a finish in 54:38.1.
On the boys side, Saranac Lake’s Nick Kelting (10:07.8), Adrian Hayden (10:18.6) and Jacob Alberga (9:32.5) put together a time of 29:59, which was good enough for third place. Lake Placid’s top team finished seventh overall, with Kai and Tate Franz and Max Flanigan finishing in 32:39.2. The home team, made up of Daniel Manzella and Bryce and Brian Beyerbach won the race, crossing the line in just 28:28.1.
Taylor Samburg, Griffin Smith and Brennan Nobles finished in 10th out of a field of 35 with a time of 34:22 for the Red Storm and were followed by Sawyer Chase, Adam Hesseltine and Reuben Bernstein, who finished 14th in 39:22.1.
The local contingent was rounded out by Saranac Lake’s Jackson Small and Sam and Logan Branch, who placed 21st with a time of 44:52.2.
