Lincoln, Ashton named to Class C all-state team
SARANAC LAKE — Although Saranac Lake’s football team struggled to an uncharacteristic two-win season, there were some talented players on the squad.
Seniors Jarrett Ashton and Sean Lincoln were recognized for their efforts as all-state selections by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Lincoln, who transferred to Saranac Lake as a junior, has only two seasons of experience playing competitive football, but in that short time, he made a huge impact in the trenches on both sides of the ball. He was a Class C third-team selection as an offensive lineman.
Despite missing one game and continuing to play with a knee injury, Ashton was Saranac Lake’s go-to player and top weapon at running back. Also a second-year starting linebacker, Ashton rushed for more than 1,000 yards during his final season of high school football and was an all-state Class C honorable mention selection at running back.
Ashton is a three-sport athlete currently on the basketball team and will play lacrosse with the Red Storm this spring.
