CLINTONVILLE — The Saranac Lake girls soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to AuSable Valley on Thursday on the road.

The Patriots got balanced scoring as four players chipped in to find the back of the net. Taylor Hackett, Dru Gravelle, Jenna Stanley and Avery Tromblee had a goal apiece in the win.

Trailing 2-0, the Red Storm cut the gap when Kayleigh Merrill scored with 7:22 remaining in the opening half with Julia Chapin assisting. Saranac Lake, however, saw a tight game get away as AuSable went on to score two more times after intermission to secure the victory.

“It’s a fast game playing on turf,” Saranac Lake coach Bill Wilson said. “We came into this game hoping for a win, but Ausable was faster to the ball and more aggressive on scoring opportunities. Jayda Buckley played a well controlled game and was very patient with the ball. Our girls never quit, and that’s all I can ask for.”

The Patriots out shot the Red Storm 15-8. Koree Stillwell made five saves in goal for AuSable Valley and Mecalyn Sousa recorded 10 saves for Saranac Lake.

Saranac Lake plays again Saturday on the road at Lake Placid starting at 11 a.m.
