Red Storm dominate Mud Run

FORT COVINGTON — The Saranac Lake boys cross country team recorded a perfect score and the Red Storm girls completed the sweep Saturday at the Salmon River Mud Run Invitational.

Saranac Lake runners finished first through eighth as the Red Storm cruised to a 15-73 victory over second-place Norwood-Norfolk. Salmon River was third with 75 points, followed by Plattsburgh (81) and Ogdensburg (147).

Saranac Lake senior Lauchlan Cheney-Seymour was the first runner across the line with a time of 17 minutes, 53.78 seconds. Tyler Martin was next in 18:49.78, followed by freshman Micah McCulley (18:52.48), James Catania (18:54.05), Anderson Gray (18:57.47), Peter Fogarty (19:13.99), Adam Hesseltine (19:34.87) and Jacob Alberga (19:49.80).

The Red Storm girls collected 26 points to win the invitational title. Norwood-Norfolk was second with 56, Plattsburgh was third with 76, Pulaski took fourth with 97 and Salmon River rounded out the field with 125.

Madison Grimone was Saranac Lake’s top runner, placing third with a time of 22:21.22. Sydney Levison of Norwood-Norfolk won the race in 20:20.66 and Grace Cummings of Gouverneur took second in 22:05.58.

Saranac Lake eighth-grader Evelyn Eller was fourth overall in 22:50.98, while teammates Sierra O’Mahoney (23:47), Gwen Mader (24:20) and Ryley Fischer (24:34) occupied the seventh, eighth and ninth positions. Sylvie Linck took 11th in 24:43.

Saranac Lake returns to action today against Plattsburgh, AuSable Valley and Seton Catholic at SUNY Plattsburgh.
